چکیده

In a breeding herd previously infected with brucellosis, 203 cows of various crossbreeds were inoculated subcutaneously with a dose of 3.1 x 10 colony-forming units (CFU) of Brucella abortus strain 19. They had been vaccinated as calves with the standard dose of 60 x 10 CFU of this vaccine strain, and had become negative to the slow tube agglutination test (SAT) at the moment of revaccination. Another 137 cows in the same herd were not revaccinated in order to serve as controls for the natural course of infection.

Development of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay for differentiation of field strain isolates and vaccine strains S19 and RB51 of Brucella in Iran

Bovine brucellosis is a zoonotic disease distributed worldwide and characterized by abortion and reducedfertility in cows. Since brucellosis eradication programme in Iran uses vaccination, test, slaughter andquarantine as control measures, it is essential to distinguish vaccine strains from strains that cause infectionsamong vaccinated cattle herds. We developed and evaluated a multiplex polyme...

Evaluation of biochemical differences and Immunological effects of LPS and Lipid A extracted from Brucella strains

Background: The intrinsic heterogeneity determination in Brucella Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is important for explaining its chemicalnature and biological behavior. This is significant for practical purposes, since LPS is the most relevant antigen during infectionand vaccination. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to compare biochemical and immunological differences of LPS and lipid ...

New Brucella abortus S19 Mutant to Improve Distinction Between Infected and Vaccinated Animals

Background: Using Brucella abortus Strain 19 (S19) to control bovine brucellosis is restricted due to induce antibodies to the O-side chain of the smooth lipopolysaccharide (LPS) which may be difficult to differentiate vaccinated and infected animals. Furthermore, it is virulent for humans and can induce abortion to cattle. Objectives: The aim of...

A Case of Identity Confirmation of Brucella abortus S99 by Phage Typing and PCR Methods

Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection that is associated with fever in humans and abortion in animals. The agent of this disease is a facultative intracellular gram-negative coccobacillus called Brucella. There are six classic species, including B. abortus, B. melitensis, B. suis, B. canis, B. neotomae, and B. ovis.  In recent years, four new species have been reported,...

Improved Immunogenicity of Tetanus Toxoid by Brucella abortus S19 LPS Adjuvant

Background: Adjuvants are used to increase the immunogenicity of new generation vaccines, especially those based on recombinant proteins. Despite immunostimulatory properties, the use of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant has been hampered due to its toxicity and pyrogenicity. Brucella abortus LPS is less toxic and has no pyrogenic properties compared to LPS from other gram nega...
